This man, James Verone, robbed a bank for one dollar. Why only one dollar? Because he knew that in prison he could get the medical care he could not afford with his part time salary as a convenience store clerk. He was approved for food stamps, but they did little to help his finances. Between his back problems, carpel tunnel, and arthritis, he simply couldn’t handle the pain any longer.

On June 9th, he sent a letter to his local paper, the Gaston Gazette, that stated: “When you receive this a bank robbery will have been committed by me. this robbery is being committed by me for one dollar. I am of sound mind but not so much sound body.”

He then took a cab to the RBC Bank, and handed the teller a note asking for one dollar and medical attention. He quietly took a seat in the lobby and waited for police to arrive.

Since Verone only stole one dollar, he was only charged with larceny. His bail, which he doesn’t plan to pay is set at $2,000, reduced from the normal $100,000. He’s scheduled to see a doctor this Friday, and hopes to get foot surgery, back surgery and to have a protrusion on his check treated.

To me, this is the perfect example of how disturbingly corrupt and unjust our health care system has become under HMO’s. For this man, or any person for that matter, feels that he needs to be imprisoned just to see a doctor, is ridiculous.

This is exactly what I hate about America. Why is it that you can buy an entire house with money you don’t have, but still can’t apply for health care if you don’t meet the requirements? That’s messed up.

I almost laugh every time I see a “fat acceptance” post where someone in a double digit size is talking about how much they love their body. Sorry. You’re a fucking liar. No one that large loves their body. You’re just using that “love” as a pathetic excuse to stuff your face.

This is hilarious because I am the biggest I’ve ever been and I ain’t ever loved myself so fucking much.

My clit gets hard when I look in the mirror. I rub my belly and I squeeze my ass and just cry wondering how perfection exists on this plane.

Why would we lie, when we both know you wouldn’t believe it either way?

When we both know you had your mind made up long before asking if we were happy.

I promise you it’s not.

What they really meant to say was “I don’t understand how fat people can love their body when I can’t love mine.” Projecting much?

Every person who has ever said this around me has deep seated body shame. I hope OP gets some help, stops saying horrible things about fat people to try and make themselves feel better.

There are a lot of things in this world that I can’t begin to fathom:

why anyone would want to eat raw onions as if they were apples
why anyone would willingly sit through all 16 hours of Wagner’s ring cycle operas
why anyone would actually enjoy jogging
why anyone even likes reality television

… but you know what? Those are all things based on opinions, tastes, and preferences.

Just because I don’t like onions doesn’t mean onions are worthless. It doesn’t mean that onions are poisonous. My opinion of a thing doesn’t change the inherent values and properties of that thing — it only affects the ways in which I personally interact with that thing.

My disliking onions doesn’t make me a bad person, either. If you love onions and can’t understand why I would hate them? Why are you complaining? It just means there’s less competition for them! You can have my share! It’s all good.

You know what would make me a bad person for my onion opinion? Is if I ever tred to push that opinion on other people. If I ever tried to make other people hate them as well.

If I don’t like onions, I can just avoid them. Because that’s the sane and adult way to behave.

How rude would it be for me to run around, reaching my hands into other people’s salads to pluck out the onions that they might find delicious? Pretty fucking rude, really. They were just sitting down to enjoy a nice meal and I had to show up, stick my grubby paws in their food and ruin their meal — and quite possibly their day.

So maybe we should all just settle down and remember the manners that we were supposed to have been taught in kindergarten:

If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.
Keep your hands (and opinions) to yourself.
Treat other people as you would like to be treated.
Above all else, you’ve got to be kind.
